Icon Making Workshop

PLEASE NOTE THIS WORKSHOP IS NOW FULL. TICKETS WERE AVAILABLE THROUGH EVENTBRITE.

Icons are windows or doorways to the sacred. During this workshop we learn about the history of icons including how, why and when they are used; and trust to the process of making our own, for ourselves or as a gift for a loved one. Materials will be provided, but you may wish to bring scraps of paper, materials or lace; pictures, or photos that are significant to you to work with. No art experience is necessary – the magic is that the icons make themselves, almost!

“When it is not possible to pray, we can always briefly look at an icon which is so intimately linked with the experience of love.” – Henri Nouwen

The workshop is led by local artist Janina Karpinska who has made a successful practice of creating devotional icons. She works with materials that might easily be discarded or overlooked; things that are broken or torn, washed up on shores, or simply too familiar to warrant much attention.

Places are limited. Booking through Eventbrite is essential: tickets £6 / £4 concessions. For more information visit our special events page on our website www.centreforspirituality.org
