Reflective Summer Walk

Join us for a countryside walk, taking in all the sights, sounds and smells of summer. We will remind ourselves of nature’s powerful ability to speak to our spiritual depths. Some of the walk will be in periods of silence, and some in companionable conversation. The walk is about four miles in total on the edge of the South Downs, and will take about three hours with stops. It includes a visit to St Wulfran’s Church in Ovingdean, built in the 11th century, one of the oldest buildings in Brighton & Hove. We will picnic here and take time together as a group to share some of our walk experiences and give thanks for the wonders of creation.

There are  tea and coffee making facilities in the church, you may wish to bring your favourite teabags etc, and a lovely field beyond the churchyard where we will stop for our picnic.

The walk is led by Rev Kate Lawson and Jane Bartlett. Kate is the assistant curate at All Saints Church, Hove. She is also a Healthwalks leader with Brighton & Hove City Council. Jane Bartlett is an ordinand (training to be a priest) at All Saints.

We meet at the Pavilion café in East Brighton Park BN2 5PB at 11am. Public car parking available (£2 for 4 hours).  If you are coming by car, follow the signs to the Pavilion Café, where there is limited parking right outside and further parking down the  track on the way to the Downs. The only meter is opposite the café. Also served by buses 7, 21, 47 and 52. Bring water, a picnic and a rug. After St. Wulfran’s, the walk continues to the seafront, then we take the under cliff walk , so there is the option to catch a bus there, on the coast road, either back to the car park, or home. Those who carry on will take the path back to the café, getting back about 2pm.

We will stop for cake,  if desired , on the under cliff at  Ovingdean Café

Children and dogs welcomed. Not suitable for pushchairs. Please wear trainers, walking boots or walking sandals, as it is fairly steep and stony in places, and could be slippery. Event cancelled if there is heavy rain.

Donations welcomed.
